The Portmanteau is a leather case or piece of luggage that has been in use for many, many years. I made three of these from a piece of 8-9 oz veg (Oak) tanned leather. I will use them primarily for my personal items and cook kit during my historical outings.

I’ve seen several variations of the portmanteau. They were all made of good leather and hand sewn. Your items look well constructed and period correct. Good work!
Thanks Ron. The heavy leather is a chore to sew but, they shape up quick and I think they will be very useful.
May I ask what type of thread you used to sew it?
I used a heavy waxed thread, Double stitched.
